2 Replica in CAD

The original was a 2-cylinder 20 hp compound engine with 130 mm stroke, 115 mm diameter high pressure piston and 195 mm low pressure piston. Since these dimensions are a little big for our steam boats, I strated to build a 1:2 copy first.

All component dimensions of the machine, I picked up from the drawing. I converted everything by the known cylinder dimensions. Semifinished goods and standard parts such as bolts and sleeves were of course in common mm dimensions rounded. The wall thickness of the casting could not be scaled everywhere.

The transmission of the measured dimensions in the CAD modell is multi-stage. First, a skeletal structure was set up, till the lines of its proportions corresponded to the original. Subsequently I refined the essential elements like cylinder block, stud frame, engine and foundation individually. During the following combination of these elements I had to rezise parts in several design loops back and force.

In parallel, I've created an animation of the reversing gear. So it's function could be verified. By now the 3D model of the cylinder block has received its "production release" status. In the area of the engine base still some work to do ...
